Torrance Memorial installs EggNest® Protect in its cath lab

Torrance Memorial Medical Center installed EggNest Protect in its cardiac catheterization lab, paid for by a charitable donation, and says it is the first hospital in California to do so.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center has installed EggNest Protect in its cardiac catheterization lab, paid for by a charitable donation. The hospital described the installation in an article on its own site on 28 March 2025.

What the hospital reported

  • Torrance Memorial says it is the first hospital in California to install EggNest Protect.
  • Its cath lab is a regional referral center for complex percutaneous coronary intervention and treats chronic total occlusions, cases that can take hours.
  • With the system in place, the hospital says, its team can wear lightweight aprons in place of standard lead.

The article quotes the cath lab’s manager, Andrea Alarcon, RN, and two of the hospital’s interventional cardiologists, Chris Matchison, MD, and R. Michael Wyman, MD, on why the team wanted it.
