Enhanced Radiation Protection Device

The EggNest® radiation protection system

One integrated system that protects everyone in the room, in every case: above and below the table, and at the head of the table, where scatter is highest.13

Operator estimated annual collar dose
25.5 mrem
dose measured over the apron with EggNest Complete, in real-world procedures: total effective doses were <1% of the annual maximum20
Scatter reduction
Up to >99%
demonstrated in published clinical studies for staff standing behind the Complete Shield1
Coverage
360°
A modular system comprised of integrated table-mounted and ceiling-mounted shields that provide 360° of protection around the patient while allowing for easy patient loading and access.
Construction

Complete Flex Hanging Shield

  • Adds above table protection, providing up to >99% reduction for those behind the shield1
  • Hangs from current ceiling boom without additional construction
  • Installs in under 45 minutes, meaning no lab downtime

Real-time Dosimetry

  • Provides real-time feedback during cases
  • Essential if choosing to remove lead aprons

Ultralight 0.125 Pb Aprons

The whole room, the head of the table included.

Scatter exposure is highest at the head of the table. In a phantom study, the Echo, Anesthesia and implanting EP positions averaged 4x the scatter dose of the Operator.13

Head of the table

Echo, Anesthesia and EP

EggNest has 360-degree shielding. A hanging head shield buckles to the side shields to keep the shielding continuous around the head of the table, and head flip shields raise into place for staff at either side of the patient's head.

  • 96% lower scatter than standard shielding at the echo or EP implanter position14
  • 85% lower at the anesthesia position14
  • Clear Spot Shield included for the head of the table protection
Floor and ceiling

No clutter or trip hazards

Every part of EggNest mounts to the procedure table, its rail, or the ceiling boom your lab already has. There are no carts to roll in, lock or step around, and the floor around the table stays clear for the team.

  • The base replaces the table's own mattress
  • The table skirt takes the place of any skirt already on the table rail
  • The Complete Flex attaches to the boom's support tube, in place of your hanging shield

Accessories

  • ScatterPro™

    Disposable drape

A sterile, single-use, lead-free drape at 0.25 mm Pb equivalence, placed around the access site with adhesive strips. The flap folds over the hand for radial access.

  • ScatterScoop™

    New
    Reusable arm support

A molded carbon fiber arm support with 0.5 mm Pb shielding built in, used like any jam-board style scoop on the patient's right or left.

Questions we get asked

Questions about EggNest.

What does installation involve?

For EggNest Protect, the table's own mattress comes off, the table is cleaned, and the base platform goes on in its place (manual 4511rC, pp19 to 25). For EggNest Complete, an adapter bolts to the support tube of your existing ceiling-mounted boom, and the Complete Flex hangs from it in place of your current shield (manual 4344rC, pp8 to 9). No construction, no permitting and no lab downtime.

What does EggNest add to the patient table, and which tables does it fit?

The EggNest Protect base replaces the table's own mattress: a carbon fiber platform built to be radiolucent, a low-attenuation mattress on top, and rails for the shields around it. Tell us what system you have and we will confirm the fit.

What sits on the floor?

Nothing. Every part of EggNest mounts to the procedure table, its rail, or for EggNest Complete the ceiling boom your lab already has. The base replaces the table mattress, the table skirt hangs from the table rail, the Clear Spot shield rides on a rail on the patient's left, and the Complete Flex attaches to the boom's support tube (manual 4511rC, pp8 to 17; manual 4344rC, p8). There are no carts to roll in, lock or step around.

Does the head of the table need a separate shield?

No. EggNest carries its own. A hanging head shield buckles to the side shields so the shielding runs continuously around the head of the table, and head flip shields raise into place for staff at either side of the patient's head (manual 4511rC, pp11 and 15). In a phantom study against standard shielding, scatter was 96% lower at the echo or EP implanter position and 85% lower at the anesthesia position.14 The consensus statement describes EggNest as shielding everyone around the procedural table: operators, assistants and other laboratory staff.3

Does it work for every procedure?

EggNest is used across interventional cardiology, structural heart, electrophysiology, interventional radiology and vascular surgery, with a procedure-specific setup for each: femoral and radial access, device implantation and ablation, aortic and lower-extremity work. It fits the existing workflow without changing how the room runs.

What comes with EggNest Complete?

The Protect base system and the Complete hanging shield, a real-time dosimetry system with four badges, four sets of 0.125 mm ultralight aprons with hospital programs, and expert installation with one to two weeks of on-site support.
